Board Member Profile: Wema Sabrina Kubisa
/When and why did you join the Mwendo Congo board of directors? What roles have you had?
I first joined Mwendo Congo in 2019 as a volunteer. I then joined the board and served as a cultural liaison between Mwendo Congo and partners in the DRC. I am currently serving as the secretary and I am part of the trauma healing bridge group. I joined Mwendo Congo because I believe in the mission and I have seen the work that Mwendo Congo has done since the very beginning. Also, as a person who was born and grew up in Congo, I strive to find ways to give back to my country and Mwendo Congo allows me to be part of significant work that improves people’s lives.
Tell us about your education and work background. How does that connect to the work we support in the Dem. Republic of Congo (DRC)?
My educational background is in public health and global health. This background allows me to think about issues in a holistic way and to translate principles of public health to other areas of life. Issues that young people face in the DRC such as lack of access to health care or poverty are public health issues that can harm people’s wellbeing.
What else do you do in your life - for fun and for service to others?
I love spending time with my family, singing, and catching up with friends.
What is your vision for Mwendo Congo into the future?
My vision for Mwendo Congo is to continue to create a bridge between the DRC and the U.S. that people can use to exchange skills, ideas, and experiences.
