Help Complete Project HEART
/Mwendo Congo continues to support the work of Let Africa Live (LAV) in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This year our goal has been to raise a minimum of $70,000 through Project HEART (Help Empower Automotive Repair Technicians) to equip LAV’s automotive shop and mechanic training program. Thanks to the generosity of donors, Mwendo Congo was able to send the first installment of a grant to support this work in April!
Pastor Kubisa Sosthene Muzenende, founder of LAV and liaison to Mwendo Congo, was able to visit LAV this summer and see the progress on the facilities. Kubisa was in the DRC to attend church conferences and civil society meetings on the issues of peace and development in the country. Kubisa was able to see the hanger that was constructed for the vehicle control bridge (see photo) and vehicle painting. He also learned that the new machinery and equipment for the Auto Mechanic Shop have been ordered and will soon be shipped from Dubai.
Ultimately, LAV’s automotive shop will be equipped to train students as automotive repair technicians on modernized equipment. Once these students are trained, they will be able to start their own repair business or work in an automotive repair shop. In addition, training graduates will continue to perform automotive repair and maintenance work at the Production Center which generates revenue for LAV’s on-going programs.
Mwendo Congo’s goal is to finish fundraising for Project HEART in the next month so we can send the final grant installment to LAV before the end of the year. We are only $7,000 shy of reaching our goal! The sooner we meet our goal, the sooner the automotive repair training program can begin to empower people with the skills they need to earn income as auto mechanics. Thank you for your continued support of the mission of Mwendo Congo and our partners in the DRC.
