Mwendo Congo 10th Anniversary
/Mwendo Congo founders, leaders, and faithful supporters gathered on a beautiful August afternoon to celebrate ten years of walking together with partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Neema Mulashe and family provided delicious Congolese food that we enjoyed together at the home of incoming board member Erika Arnold-McEwan. A creative team put together photo boards commemorating the visits we’ve made to the DRC and the incredible work of our DRC partners.
We told stories - looking back at the beginning of our relationships with Pastor Kubisa and Dr. Edwige, the first presentation they made about realities in the DRC and the life-giving work they were part of - leading to a year of nearly 100 presentations and a network of 400+ supporters.
We gave thanks for generous hearts. Donors have contributed nearly $500,000 to the causes of health, education, and trauma healing for women lacking medical care and young people impacted by ongoing conflict in the eastern DRC. Grants have provided:
Land on Idjwi Island as the first step toward a maternal and child health clinic
A boat to transport women with high-risk pregnancies to the mainland for safe childbirth
Sewing machines and supplies for new training graduates to start their own tailoring businesses
Mother-child housing for young single mothers while in training and trauma healing programs
A central production site for carpentry, auto repair, and welding - land, buildings, modernized equipment, and training that leads to higher quality work and increased income
Humanitarian assistance for displaced people in the most recent crisis of rebel occupation in the region
As Pastor Kubisa reminded us, the need is greater than ever, and we pledged on-going solidarity with Let Africa Live into the future.
