DR Congo: Repression Persists as Election Deadline Nears

Government repression in the Democratic Republic of Congo six months before scheduled elections has heightened concerns of widespread political violence. On June 23, 2018, the Catholic Church's Lay Coordination Committee (CLC) said in a letter to the African Union that it was preparing new protests and described a "total crisis of confidence" in the electoral process and the risks of "a certain and generalized chaos."
