Community Gathering Celebrates Connection

The Mwendo Congo community gathered at Wabun Park in August for a fun afternoon of conversation, crafts, good food, music, and celebration of grants made to Congolese partners.  Over 50 people, of all ages and backgrounds, connected with one another and with partners in the DRC.

Hundreds of woven hearts were created by those gathered, as an expression of love toward our partner communities in eastern Congo.  Hearts will be hand-delivered by Mwendo Congo members in 2018.  Thanks to Sonya Gindorff for leading this activity!

Lisa Nilles, Mwendo Congo leader on health projects, invited people to participate in an Amnesty International letter-writing campaign to free political prisoners in the DRC.

A huge hurrah as Lisa Nilles shared news that funding for Idjwi Initiative’s health water taxi is complete and the boat is now in production!

Music, dancing, babies, nice weather – doesn’t get better than that!  Thanks to the Kubisa “kids” for teaching some great dance moves!

Proceeds from a craft sale were donated to Mwendo Congo.  Thanks to Karen Franzmeier who created all the fun items, and to the kids who oversaw sales!

Good food nourished us through the afternoon.  And plenty of smiles all around.  Thank you to Neema Kubisa and Christine Butter for food prep!
